In Findeln, above Zermatt (2051 metres above sea level), is the Findlerhof restaurant, which is situated amid a hiking and skiing area very similar to those around Zermatt. There are countless reasons why you will be able to switch off and enjoy yourself at the Findlerhof in a cosy, family environment, among them the breathtaking view of the Matterhorn, and the exquisite cuisine and wines.

Many things are still the same as they were in the mountain huts that once stood here a hundred and fifty years ago. Everything is still the same. There is no doubt that Edward Whymper, the first climber of the Matterhorn, could walk in with his rope team with no one being surprised.

It would be a dream come true for any city dweller with an eye for authenticity if they were fortunate enough to have access to two sun terraces. One is directly in front of the old chalet building, while the other is slightly elevated next to it (the solarium). There is a combination of traditional Swiss food and Italian specialities with a pinch from around the world thrown in for good measure. There are a few perennial favourites at the restaurant, including the pasta trio with scampi and the lamb fillet with rösti.


Fluhalp (Fluhalp)

Nestled above the ancient wooden hamlet of Blatten, this quaint little mountain restaurant offers the perfect combination of alpine ambience, superb service, incredible food, and stunning views from its sun terrace that will take your breath away. The Bergrestaurant Blatten is one of the oldest eateries in Zermatt (it’s approximately 30 minutes by foot from the village), owned by the famous Taugwalder family, descendants of the two mountain guides who successfully ascended the Matterhorn in 1865, making this one of the oldest eateries around the village.

In addition to the delicious alpine cuisine (prepared with herbs from the nearby Ricola Herb Garden), the fine wines and fruit tarts make it a popular lunch destination for skiers and walkers. There’s a wide variety on the menu, including salads, cheeses, stews, rösti, homemade pasta, and polenta, as well as a variety of other dishes. A jolly fondue evening will take place on Wednesday nights in winter (advance reservations are needed), and Snowbar will be a popular watering station on the slopes.

In 1967, Renate and Simon Biner built and opened a mountain restaurant at 1800 metres above sea level on Furi called Simi, in which they started up the business of mountain food service. It has been nearly 40 years since Stefan Leitner and Sebastien di Stefano opened the doors of their hotel to guests, and they continue to welcome and care for them.

You can reach the Furi cable car station within a minute by foot. There is a variety of Swiss and Austrian cuisine available in the restaurant along with traditional Swiss dishes such as our Wiener Schnitzel and apple strudel.

No matter what your taste is, there is something for you, whether it is in the beautiful and stylish interior or on the sunny terrace, where every guest will find something to their liking. A modern touch has been added to the menu by Head Chef Oliver Milson and his team, who prepare homemade, seasonal specialties using the best local ingredients. Their dishes – which have recently been awarded 13 points by Gault Millau – will delight both meat lovers as well as vegetarians. Through the panoramic windows of the restaurant, while you are enjoying your meal, there is a stunning view of all the Swiss Alpine peaks surrounding the Klein Matterhorn, on which the restaurant stands together with the highest mountain station in Europe and on which the restaurant sits.

There are many things to choose from when you are having lunch on the terrace: pita bread with red onions and cottage cheese (along with pata negra if you wish), spicy carrot soup with ginger, minced meat on flatbread with lime sour cream and green Tabasco sauce. In the end, it ends well: enjoy the Paradise Schmarrn, which you certainly shouldn’t miss.

In addition to traditional Swiss and Valais dishes, like fondue, rösti, steak, and even Cordon Bleu (which was invented in the canton of Valais), our chef combines contemporary international cuisine with contemporary seasonal light food in addition to traditional Swiss dishes. As the name of the restaurant suggests, you will find specialties made with lamb and goat in a variety of variations – in their local dialect, Gitz-Gädi means goat stable.
