Cervinia

If spectacular scenery, exquisite snow, and authentic cuisine sound like your ideal ski holiday, Cervinia should be top of your list this winter.

Cervinia is one of the highest, largest, and most snow-sure resorts in the Alps. Its 350km ski area allows you to traverse across two countries in one holiday. Why not cruise over to Zermatt for a Michelin Star Swiss fondue? With sun-kissed slopes and glorious views of the Matterhorn, this is a wonderful resort for the fair-weather skier. But sought-after off-piste itineraries offer plenty of thrills if you’re looking for more of a challenge.

Soak up the sun back in town- a former mountaineering village dripping with laid-back style. Stroll the cobbled main street and seek out tasty hidden gems in this foodie hotspot.

Join in with the friendly après ski scene or retreat back to your Cervinia luxury ski chalet. Confident Italian design will make our properties the highlight of your stay in Cervinia. Browse our hand-picked selection of accommodation below to start crafting your alpine escape.

Cervinia Resort

Breuil-Cervinia is known locally as Cervino. It gets its name from Mount Cervino, more commonly known by its Swiss name- The Matterhorn. While this epic land mass has become a symbol for neighbouring Zermatt, the views from Cervinia are just as enticing. At an altitude of 2,050m, the resort enjoys fabulous mountain vistas and one of the longest snow seasons in the Alps.

Resting in the charming Valle d’Aosta, this pretty town is rich in mountaineering culture and authentic traditions. The traffic-free centre has a wonderful atmosphere that invites you to hop between around 50 hearty restaurants and warming apres-ski venues.

Cervinia Restaurants

If there are two things Italy is famous for, it’s gastronomy and hospitality. You’ll find both in abundance in Cervinia. Whether you want an elegant bite in a small café, an opulent lunch on the slopes, or an authentic candle-lit spread, this place is a feast for foodies. And with a dining philosophy more affordable than neighbouring Zermatt, Cervinia is a spot where you can really splash out.

In the town

La Chandelle in the beautiful Hotel Hermitage is one of the must-visit spots in Cervinia. Flawless service delivers a collection of the best dishes from Piedmont to your table. Make sure to pair it with a vast selection of wines from their cellar. And don’t forget to choose from their menu of 20 different Italian olive oils. Wood brings a quirky twist to Cervinia’s fine dining scene. The stylish bistro honours the owners’ Italian and Swedish heritages, while throwing in a touch of Asian flavour to shake things up.

If you’re searching for rustic charm, La Luge offers an intimate alpine hideaway just outside of town. Their traditional Valdostan dishes have received an update from their creative young chef. Grivola mimics the interior of a traditional rascard, with sultry old larch wood décor. They offer hearty portions of traditional Aosta Valley cuisine. Craving the simplicity of a good pizzeria? Al Solito Posto and Pizzeria Sotto Zero are both tasty options.

On the slopes

Chalet Etoile is a Cervinia institution and is often among the best piste-side eateries in Europe. It has been run by the same family since its opening in 1974. For dinner with a difference, you can arrange for a skidoo to pick you up for an evening adventure. If you’re looking for a more lavish lunch, you could ski over to Zermatt and try gastronomic icons like Chez Vrony and Findlerhof.

Don’t let the self-service aspect fool you at Bontadini. Its downstairs restaurant serves exceptional local dishes while its large terraces are perfect for soaking up the sun with a bombadino. Curl up by the wood burner in a historic chalet at L’Igloo. You can sample their famous grilled meats while taking in the spectacular views.

Cervinia Apres & Nightlife

Although much quieter than Zermatt, Cervinia has some lively drinking offerings, especially on the weekends when the locals flock from Venice and Verona. You might not be dancing into the early hours, but you’ll find a great choice of trendy cocktail bars, sunny apres-ski parties, and a vibrant live music scene.

Wrap up a day’s skiing with a slope-side tipple before your final descent.

  • The Apres Ski Bar is on a red run back into town. Excellent cocktails, live music, and a stunning setting in the Hotel Principi Della Nevi make it a real crowd-pleaser.
  • Snap a selfie by the LOVE Cervinia sign before settling in for an afternoon of Mediterranean dishes and live DJ sets.
  • If you’d rather start the party back in town, pitch up your skis at Umbrella Bar. This buzzy little spot feeds into its sister bar Lino’s as the night wears on.

If you’re looking for an elegant spot for an aperitif, Cervinia has some wonderful options.

  • The sophisticated La Champagnerie du Cervin is popular for its relaxed atmosphere and large collection of champagne and sparkling wines.
  • The adorable wine bar at The Dragon Hotel has elegant alpine décor and a wonderful wine collection.
  • Tasty is a local favourite, with grazing boards, cocktails, and over 500 gin and tonic recipes.

Party animals won’t find many thumping nightclubs here, but there are some options if you’re not ready to go back to your Cervinia chalet.

  • Lo Yeti is a friendly spot with regular events and live music.
  • Lino’s Bar has live DJ and karaoke nights, and also serves great pizza.

Cervinia Ski Area

The slopes surrounding Cervinia tick all the boxes. As one of the largest ski areas in Italy, you’ll have access to over 350km of piste to please all preferences and experience levels. This makes a Cervinia luxury ski holiday the ideal option for mixed groups.

Sitting at an altitude of 2,050m with lift access up to 3,883m, the resort has a fabulous snow record and one of the longest winter seasons in the Alps. Despite the hair-raising altitudes, the vast lift network is modern and efficient, keeping the waiting times to a minimum.

Top it all off with outstanding mountain scenery, sunny slopes, and the chance to ski in two countries in one day.

The ski area

The Matterhorn Ski Paradise encompasses the sectors of Breuil-Cervinia, Valtournenche, and Zermatt. Cervinia’s local area includes 150km of piste and two main sections.

  • Plan Maison is accessible from town with runs for all levels. From here you can go up to the Swiss border at Theodulpass and choose a fun red route back down.
  • Laghi Cime Bianche has some great reds and links back to Plan Maison via an easy green. It’s also served by a cable car that’ll take you to Zermatt.

Boarders

Beginner snowboarders will find easy learning terrain at Plan Maison. But be prepared for a cumbersome start with several drag lifts and slopes more catered to novice skiers. Once you’ve got the basics down, Cervinia is a fantastic place to progress, with fluffy snow, and a huge choice of gentle blues.

Intermediates can really come into their own, with almost the whole of the Matterhorn Ski Paradise at their fingertips. This is a chance to tackle long, wide runs and build up some serious speed. If you’re an advanced boarder looking for some extra thrills, hop over to Zermatt or venture off the piste.

Freestylers will be more than satisfied at the Indian Snowpark, arguably one of the best parks in Italy. To the thump of the music, you can tackle a range of kickers, quarters, plugs, rails and boxes for all levels, or grab a quick thrill on the big air. When you’ve had enough, spectate from the sidelines and soak up the atmosphere at the chill-out area.

Beginners

In the village, novices will find a nursery slope with a magic carpet for a quick practice. But most ski schools will take you straight up to the Plan Maison. There are some great green runs here and the highlight of your week will be your first descent back into town via the long blue. It’s unlikely you’ll have time to venture beyond here, but if you have a spare day, you could take the bus over to Valtournenche. From here you could spend the day on the blues in Salette then take the cable car back down.

Recommended ski schools:

  • Scuola di Sci del Breuil is a local company established since 1999. They offer private lessons for a variety of levels and disciplines.
  • Cervino Ski School has been operating in Cervinia since the first cable car was launched. They offer group and private lessons, as well as professional guide services.

Intermediates

Cervinia is a wonderful resort for the intermediate skier, with long cruisy runs and plenty of challenges when you’re ready to push yourself. Get your ski legs back at Plan Maison then venture onto the reds further up the valley.

One of the best things about Cervinia is the epic choice of long red routes. Get a real workout with the 22km route from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise all the way to Valtournenche.

Advanced

There are some fun blacks to try in Cervinia, from the steep No.24 to the long and mogulled No.59. The super adventurous will want to spend more time in Zermatt, but make sure you leave enough time to make the last lifts.

Cervinia also offers some fantastic off-piste opportunities, particularly around the Theodul Glacier. You could also go to the Zermatt side, well known for having some of the best off-piste terrain in the world. Or for the ultimate backcountry experience, opt for heliskiing in the Aosta Valley, with over 50 different drop-off points to choose from.
