It’s easy to get to most places in Andermatt on foot. For a fun option, you can also rent an e-scooter to get from A to B. There’s also a free bus that connects the village with the ski lifts and train station.

Andermatt has a quiet and family-friendly feel. Welcoming bars have lots of spaces to socialise. It gets livelier on the weekends, with regular live music and events. Whether you want a cosy beer or an upscale cocktail bar, you’ll find a get spot to while away your evening.

Andermatt doesn’t have a vast selection of on-mountain parties, but you’ll find some unique options to wrap up your days on the slopes. Great transport connections mean that you can indulge a little more without worrying about making the ski home.

• Bask in the sun and take in mountain vistas at Himalaya Bar. It’s easy to get to on skis or by train, so it’s perfect for getting the non-skiers involved in the party.
• Stop for a drink in the Big T Bar at Dieni. They often have discos and live music, and it’s close to the train station so you’ll have an easy journey home.
• The Apres Ski Train is a must-do while in Andermatt. Ride back to Andermatt through stunning alpine terrain while sipping on a range of drinks.

For a relaxed environment, Andermatt has a range of pubs and bars to unwind in.

• The popular Spycher Bar is a friendly spot to watch the match and they serve tasty stone-baked pizzas.
• Bar Di Alt Apothek was once the town chemist. Sample alpine tapas alongside an excellent selection of regional wines.
• Chedi Hotel Andermatt has an excellent choice of chic bars. Hide away in The Cigar Library or curl up by the fireplace in The Bar and Living Room.

If you’re looking to carry on the party, there’s a small selection of bars where you can dance into the early hours.

• Pinte Music Bar starts out as a chilled-out pub. As the night wears on and the feel-good songs start to play, you may find yourself staying way longer than you intended to.
• The Schlüsselbar is a great weekend spot, with DJs and live bands playing late into the night.

Thanks to new lift links for Oberalp and Sedrun, Andermatt now gives you access to the largest ski domain in Central Switzerland. Fantastic snow conditions and a wide variety of runs make this a great resort for every ability.

33 lifts link 180km reaching towering heights of 3,000m. There are three main ski areas in Andermatt:

• Andermatt-Gemstock is a powder paradise made for intermediate to advanced skiers.
• Andermatt-Oberalp Pass-Sedrun has a variety of slopes to suit all levels.
• Disentis is a pretty area that is also suited to all abilities, as well as other winter sports like snowshoeing.

Boarders

Andermatt is a fantastic resort for boarders. Pistes are wide and quiet, especially around the Oberalp Pass. Beginners can start in Natschen for flat and easy runs. If you want to practice some tricks, you’ll be pleased to know that Andermatt has the biggest half pipe in Central Switzerland. The true attraction in Andermatt is its incredible freeriding areas. Head to Gemsstock to get off-piste, experiment in the fun park, and race down some hair-raising blacks.

Beginners

Andermatt is typically known as a resort for advanced skiers, but there are plenty of options if you’re a beginner trying to progress. The sunny beginner’s area in Natschen is a good place to start for its wide easy blues. You’ll also find great blue runs around Gutsch and Oberalp.

Children will have a wonderful time learning to ski in Andermatt. Dedicated kid’s zones come with their very own mascot and child-friendly lifts to make their first moves in the mountain a little easier.

Our recommended ski schools:

• The Andermatt Snowsports School hosts lessons in the kid’s arena and offers lessons for all levels. If you want to try out telemarking, cross country, or freeriding, they have dedicated private and group lessons.
• Alpine Sports Andermatt has small group lessons for children, private lessons for adults, and off-piste and guiding services.
• Ski Academy Andermatt has private lessons for kids and ski camps for all ages. As well as guiding and heliskiing, they also offer fun activities like mountain hut rallies.

Intermediates

Intermediates have lots of opportunities to progress in Andermatt, with an endless variety of piste in every ski area. For a full day of action, you can ski the entire area between Andermatt and Disentis. You’ll also find an immaculate selection of reds around the Sedrun area. Although Gemsstock is more for experts, you can say you’ve conquered it by skiing some of its shorter reds. There’s also a long red snaking down from the top station if you fancy a workout.

Advanced

For expert skiers, it’s all about Gemsstock. There are more than enough challenges to keep you occupied here for the week. And at 3,000m, you’ll have some of the best views in the resort. Make sure to try out the famous Bernhard Russi run. This unnerving black has a vertical drop of 950m.

Gemsstock is a freeriding heaven. With marked off-piste runs, you can easily explore new terrain. The most aspirational is The Giraffe. This gruelling route ends with a long stretch of couloir. If you get bored in Gemsstock, there’s a vast powder valley in Disentis. It will make you feel like you’re the only person on the mountain. To get the most out of the freeriding terrain Andermatt has to offer, we highly recommend hiring a guide or taking a heli-skiing tour.

With altitudes up to 2,963m, Andermatt is a snow-reliable resort throughout the winter season. With skiing available from mid-November to mid-April, you’ll have a large window to get on the slopes.
