Nendaz Luxury Chalets

Nendaz is a spread-out resort with some steep roads connecting accommodation, lifts, and the town centre. Free shuttle buses are running every 20-40 minutes to make your journey around town easier. There is also a free funicular connecting the centre with the Tracouet gondola departure station.

Travelling by car

Nendaz is easy to reach by road and close to the well-serviced roads of Sion. If your chalet doesn’t have parking spaces, there are indoor pay and display car parks throughout the resort.

Travelling by train

Switzerland has an excellent railway system and some of the most picturesque routes in the world. You can access Nendaz by taking a train to Sion from any major transport hub in Switzerland or Europe. Once you get to Sion, you can take a bus, shuttle, or taxi and arrive in Nendaz in less than 20 minutes.

Airports

The nearest airport to Nendaz is Sion. It’s only 18km away, making Nendaz an ideal option for a quick mini-break. However, there are larger and more popular airports nearby that may offer more flexibility and choice of flights.

There’s a range of transfer options into Nendaz, including taxis, shuttles, and limousine services.

Nendaz is a family-friendly resort whose après focuses on spending quality time together. Relaxed sun terraces, quirky bars, and cosy pubs are a staple here. It may not be packed with throbbing clubs, but the livelier bars attract the same crowd each night, so it’s perfect if you’re looking for a social atmosphere and new friends. If you’re looking for a hardcore party, you may want to opt for an evening in neighbouring Verbier.

Whether you’re looking for a vin chaud on a cold day or want to let off steam after the lifts close, there are lots of options to wrap up your day on the slopes.

• A unique option is The Igloo de Mont-Fort. This 3,330m vantage point gives you unparalleled views of The Wildhorn, the Diablerets, the Jungfrau, the Weisshorn, the Matterhorn and the Mont Blanc. While you’re here, try the highest fondue in Europe and a Swiss Rock Café- a house special of snaps, espresso, and cream.
• Bar Edelweiss is the most popular apres ski destination in Nendaz. Roll off the slopes and straight onto the buzzing terrace. Happy hours, DJs, and live bands keep the atmosphere pumping every afternoon.
• Cheers Bar often throws lively parties as the lifts close. It’s a ski-in ski-out terrace at the bottom of the Tracouet slope.

Nendaz has lots of relaxed hideaways where you can while away your evening with a drink or two.

• La Cave a Lait is a café, wine bar, and artisan store all in one. Graze charcuterie boards, sample wine, and pick up some local cheeses for the chalet at the same time.
• The friendly Le Mazot has a rustic interior and sunny patio. At the weekends, live music and karaoke events ensure the place is packed out.
• The sleek VIBE Bar has great cocktails, secluded spaces to catch up, and table football if you feel like shaking things up.

If you want something a little livelier, there are several spots where you can dance the night away. 

• Head to the colourful Cactus Saloon for guaranteed fun, entertainment, and dancing. It’s a relaxed environment with regular DJs and live bands.
• Le Lapin Vert is the go-to club in Nendaz for techno music.
• NYX blends alpine chic with the neon lights of a French discotheque. Open on weekends until the early hours, DJs rotate throughout the night to give lots of variety.

Nendaz has an ideal location in the centre of the Four Valleys. With 410km of piste, it would take months to run out of things to do in this vast ski area. Beginners are well serviced by nursery slopes with good facilities, but this area is a complete advanced skier’s dream. Technical challenges and accessible backcountry have the potential to make this the most iconic week of your skiing career. For timid intermediates, the Four Valleys can daunting, but jumping in at the deep end will have you making huge strides by the end of your trip. 

The ski area

Keep an eye on the time while exploring the Four Valleys. If you miss the last lifts, you can quickly rack up an expensive taxi fare. These are the main ski areas in the Four Valleys: 

• The Printse sector is a 220km area that encompasses the resorts of Nendaz, Veysonnaz, and Thyon. It has quiet slopes that are great for families and beginners but with easy access to the excitement of the Four Valleys.
• Verbier has good options for all levels. Head up the highspeed lifts for some long uninterrupted cruising. It also offers connections to neighbouring Bruson, a small but ideal option on bad weather days.
• La Tzoumaz/ Savoleyres is good for beginners and families. You can also find some fun tree skiing routes here. For video memories of your trip, the first drone slope in Europe is based here.
• Sitting at 3,300m, Mont Fort has panoramic views of Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn. Only confident skiers should attempt the steep North facing descent.

Boarders

Beginner boarders will struggle to access the wider areas of the Four Valleys, but the slopes around Nendaz are perfect for building confidence. Short blues on the drag lifts will help you to master the basics and the longer blues are good for progression but get crowded towards the end of the day. If you’re craving a bit more adventure Thyon and Veysonnaz also have a lovely choice of wide and gentle runs. 

You’ll also find some more interesting options around the Printse area, including fun reds around Siviez and Veysonnaz. When you’re ready to explore, hit Mont Fort and take the gruelling black run down or stick to the long red from Col De Gentianes. From here you have a vantage point to head to anywhere you like in the Four Valleys. 

There’s a great choice of snow parks spread across the Four Valleys. In Nendaz itself, you’ll find a park made entirely from wood. While the park at Thyon has fun features organised by ability, a giant airbag, boardercross, and a bar with music at the bottom for watching the action unfold. The third park is in Verbier and has four different lines with fun features like volcanoes, tabletops, and kickers. 

Of course, the freeriding here is the main attraction. From bowls and forests to chutes and gullies the backcountry potential here is immense. A unique feature in the four valleys is the lift-serviced off-piste. But if you want to venture further afield, it’s recommended you do so with a guide both for your safety and to maximise your time exploring this epic ski area. 

Beginners

Nendaz is a popular choice for beginners, with access to 130km of green and blue runs. There are also two beginner areas at Tracouet and Siviez serviced by T-bars, magic carpets, and fun features to keep new skiers engaged.

However, you probably won’t reap many benefits from the majority of the Four Valleys. Routes back from other areas involve challenging and time-consuming slopes that aren’t suitable for timid skiers.

With the Four Valleys ski pass being one of the most expensive in Europe, an economical approach would be to buy a pass only for Printse. This still gives you access to three different ski resorts but has a high concentration of beginner-friendly runs.

• The Swiss Ski School are established across Switzerland for their high-quality communication and instructors. Child lessons come with access to the Snowli Kids Village. They provide private and group lessons for all ages in skiing, snowboarding, and telemarking. They also run a Four Valleys discovery day.
• Montagne Magique specialises in private lessons with experienced instructors. Master the basics one on one, fine-tune your technique, or learn to ski off-piste and take a guide for the day.

Intermediates

On day one, stick around Printse until you’ve found your ski feet again. Thyon has a nice mix of short reds and blues and there are some lovely long reds and pretty scenery around the Veysonnaz area.

Once you’re ready to explore, you have the whole of the Four Valleys at your fingertips. With red runs making up 49% of the ski area, intermediates have endless opportunities to progress. Cruise on wide rolling pistes or challenge yourself on steep slopes and deep powder. As you improve, continue to move closer to Verbier where you’ll find more challenges and variety. When you’ve built up your confidence, take the long red run from Plan du Fou down to Siviez.

Advanced

Expert skiers have free reign over the whole of the Four Valleys. In Nendaz, there’s a steep but groomed black run winding along the chair lift from Plan du Fou to Prarion to get you warmed up. The most popular and longest black is the run coming down from Mont Fort. It’s mogulled, steep, and icy with a 15km descent. If you’re looking for more excitement, there are some great itinerary runs in this area too.

The biggest pull for advanced skiers is the Four Valleys accessible backcountry. Its unique lift-served off-piste runs make it a great option if you’re new to the world of freeriding. These yellow itinerary runs are opened and closed depending on safety, but still aren’t pisted or patrolled so shouldn’t be attempted alone.  Lac des Vaux is a great introduction to backcountry skiing, taking you from 1,553m, through snow tunnels and down to La Tzoumaz.

The Four Valleys is an immense ski area, and you shouldn’t stray too far from the pisted areas without a guide. Not only is it unsafe, you risk wasting huge chunks of your day lost in the mountains. The Four Valleys is also a popular destination for freeriding meaning it can be a struggle to find fresh tracks. Exploring with a guide allows you to determine where to go and reach untouched hidden gems.

As well as access to the high altitudes of the Four Valleys, 95% of the pistes in the Nendaz-Veysonnaz have snow-making facilities. So whatever the weather, you’ll have pristine snow on all of your runs back to the valley.

While it’s not guaranteed all the runs will be open, December is a fun time to be in Nendaz. There are lots of big opening parties and magical festive events across the resort.
