Ski straight to your door and hide away for the evening in this glamorous alpine oasis. Nestled high above Kitzbuhel at 1,645m, this property provides unmatched views and ultimate privacy. You’ll only be able to access Hahnenkamm Lodge via cable car, so it may not be the ideal choice for social butterflies. But with a full catering team and space for 12 guests, it’s the perfect destination if you want to escape from the noise and spend precious time with loved ones.

Kitzbuhel is a large resort and you’ll need to make use of the buses and taxis to get around. The main gondolas are at opposite ends of town. Prioritize ski in ski out accommodation or accommodation close to the lifts to reduce your commute time to the slopes.

In the town

For regional-style cooking with a gourmet flair, book a table at Kupferstube. Boasting an impressive 17 Gault Millau points, it’s the place to be for flawless dishes in a cosy setting. Also in the Tennerhof Hotel, is the Michelin Star Gourmet Tennerhof. The most lavish spot in town, they combine the very best of French, international, and Tyrolean cuisine and pair it all with wine from their huge cellar.

Classic Austrian fare is what Kitzbuhel does best. In the heart of town, you’ll find Huberbräu-Stüberl. From the traditional décor to the home-brewed beers, every part of this eatery was made to warm your soul. The a la carte restaurant in Hotel Rasmushof is a local favourite. Feast on their home-style cooking while nestled in the wooden interior or outside on the sunny terrace.

If you’re craving food from further afield, you’ll find plenty to keep you satisfied. Il Gusto and Centro are both excellent spots for authentic Italian. Get a taste of the sea at 1st Lobster. They serve the best fresh lobster, oysters, and seafood from the American East Coast. Or graze sushi while you take in the sparkling Kitzbuhel scenery on the rooftop of KITZnBAR. On the slopes

With so much to feast on at the top of the mountain, it might be a struggle to ski back down! Soak up the sun with traditional food and wine at Hornköpflhütte. Snuggle up in the rustic hut at Berghaus Tirol and make your way through their Tyrolean menu and selection of brewed, distilled, and fermented drinks. Or for a more elevated experience, dine at Sonnbuehel. This elegant spot has a mixture of Italian, seafood, and alpine specialities.

If you want to meet non-skiers in your group for lunch, you can still give them a taste of the slopes at Hochkitzbuhel. It’s at the top of the Hahnenkammbahn cable car and has glorious panoramic views of the Wilde Kaiser and Kitzbüheler Horn. Laze on the sunny terrace or check out the wine cellar.

Kitzbuhel Apres & Nightlife

You won’t be short of options if you’re looking for a few drinks in Kitzbuhel. End your day on the slopes with a Gluhwein in a rustic mountain hut. Then race back down to the ice bars. Party the night away in a lively pub or catch up in one of the chic wine bars.

You’ll barely have time to unclip your skis, with fun slope-side options to get the party started.

  •   Get a bite to eat and start the party at Schi-Alm. This umbrella bar stays lively until the sun goes down.
  •   Fun ice bars like ALPENIGLU and Schneebar Oberkaseralm are a chance to add a touch of novelty to your afternoon tipple.
  •   Hahnenkamm Pavillon start the party back in town in the late afternoon and continue on into the night.

If you’re looking for somewhere low-key, you’ll find a wonderful choice of warm pubs and stylish bars.

  •   Grab a pint and watch the latest sports at O’Flannigans. The friendly Irish bar also has live music at the weekends.
  •   The stylish roof terrace at KitznBar is the perfect spot for an evening cocktail.
  •   Leo Hillinger is a new spot in town. This part wine shop and part bar has stylish décor and a pretty patio.

While there isn’t an abundance of clubs, many bars get lively late into the night.

  •   The Lichtl Pub has great music, fun décor, and regular karaoke nights.
  •   The Londoner is the go-to party place for the Brits. Open until the early hours, don’t expect to be making the first lifts in the morning.
  •   For a chic clubbing experience, grab a VIP table at Club Take-Five. They have great DJs playing until 6 am.

Ski Zone

Kitzbuhel Ski Area

Skiing in Kitzbuhel offers fantastic variety and many thrills. Cruise across 92 different pistes or race down the famous Hahnennkamm. Whether you’re a family of beginners or an expert looking to get off the beaten path, you’ll have a vast area to explore.

The ski area

Kitzbuhel is the fourth largest ski area in Austria and its seven ski areas all have distinct personalities. Get around seamlessly via the modern system of 57 lifts, including the IS Cable Car- the tallest cable car in the world. You can also make use of the excellent bus system connecting all the villages on the piste map. If you want to stretch out your ski day. Head over to Kirchberg for floodlit slopes until 11 pm.

Boarders

There’s a fantastic choice of runs for boarders but beware of the flats on many of the blues. There are also a few drag lifts spread throughout the resort. Beginners will enjoy the long Hagstein run. You could also go up to the snowboard-friendly area at Kitzbuhel Horn. That way you can take the gondola back down at the end of the day or if you’re feeling confident, take the long blue home.

Freestylers will love Kitzbuhel for its abundance of natural hits. There’s a natural pipe off 29a. The park at Kitzbuheler Horn has a half-pipe, fun park, and boardercross course to practice your tricks.

Advanced boarders may not find enough on the piste to keep them busy. But with endless backcountry available this shouldn’t be a problem. Start at Bichlam then, if you’re looking for something more challenging, head over to Ehrenbach in Hahnennkamm.

Beginners

If you’re new to skiing, Kitzbuhel is an excellent place to start. With free lifts serving many of the green slopes, you can try out the sport commitment-free. Jochberg- Resterhöhe is a good place to learn and gives you a taste of the beautiful mountain views.

At Kitzbüheler Horn, you can warm up on the nursery slopes and then make an easy transition onto the longer blues. Afterwards, over to Pengelstein and build up your confidence with a choice of gentle blue runs.

Our recommended ski schools:

  •   Ski Schule Skiverleih has a special program for kids, with classes for young children and full ski school available from ages 3+
  •   Roteteufel Skischool have private and group courses for all ages and abilities, including a special race school for the very best skiers. They’re one of the oldest ski schools in Austria.
  •   Snowsports Kitzbuhel are a large school that teaches all levels. They also have great options for off-piste guiding.

Intermediates

Intermediates will be the most at home in Kitzbuhel, with 101km of blue runs and 61km of reds. Build up your confidence around Pass Thurn. The slopes are quieter here and it’s home to the highest piste in the resort. Hahnenkamm has the most variety, but you’ll find the slopes get busy here, especially towards the end of the day.

When you’re ready to get your adrenaline pumping, try out the steeper slopes around the Pengelstein. The legendary Streif run is the home of the Hahnenkamm Downhill race. While it looks intimidating, it’s classed as a red when the race isn’t on and could be a great challenge to round off your week.

Advanced

Pack in a good chunk of the resort in one day with the “KitzSki Line” ski circuit. Depending on which direction you start in, you could cover up to 57km of runs. You’ll find the best network of blacks around Steinbergkogel. If you’re looking for a quiet piste where you can rack up your full speed, keep going from here up to Pengelstein and take the No.55.

Advanced skiers may struggle to fill a week on the pistes in Kitzbuhel, but there’s plenty of backcountry to keep you busy. Chase fresh powder on 13 marked routes across the ski area. In Bichalm, the lifts are perfectly tailored towards free riders so you can get into the wilderness as fast as possible. With 200 square km of off-piste terrain to discover, we recommend hiring a guide for the day to maximise your experience.

Weather

Despite the low altitude at base, Kitzbuhel has an excellent microclimate, with snow throughout the season on the Kitzbuheler Horn. Grassy meadows hold the snow well and excellent snowmaking facilities are always there to top things up.
