Megeve Luxury Chalets

Megeve is a sprawling town. But there are lifts throughout the resort making it easy to access the slopes from your chalet. There’s an excellent free bus network to help you get around. If you want a day out in another resort, regular coaches will take you there on the Evasion Mont Blanc lift pass.

Travelling by car
Megeve is close to many other beautiful ski resorts, making it a great base for your stay in the Alps. With the convenience of your own car, you can explore everywhere from Courmayeur to Val d’Arly. Only a one-hour drive from Geneva airport, it’s an easy and accessible option if you’re looking for a shorter weekend break. Many luxury chalets offer off-road parking. If yours doesn’t, there are plenty of sheltered parking options nearby.

The closest train station to Megeve is Sallanches, 12km away. You can find direct trains to Sallanches from many major European cities.

Megeve is close to several major airports. Geneva is the most popular choice. It’s a big transfer hub so has the widest choice of flight times and departure airports.

Private transfer
Take the hassle out of your transfer by booking a private vehicle to pick you up. With everything from minibuses to limousines, you’ll find a great option to suit your group.

Megeve has a sophisticated après ski scene, with an endless choice of stylish bars and a laid-back attitude. Savour the cosmopolitan atmosphere on sunny terraces and by rustic fireplaces. While you won’t find the same raucous parties as in resorts like Val d’Isere, there are still several places open until the small hours.

Get a glass in your hand before you’ve even unclipped your skis. Megeve has a fantastic choice of slope-side parties:

• The iconic Folie Douce offers the quintessential après ski experience. Laze in the sunshine with a glass of fizz and enjoy the cabaret show. Or grab a beer and get stuck into some table dancing.
• Le Tigrr has an Asian restaurant on the slopes and a cocktail bar in the heart of Megeve. Start the party mountainside with live music and a Shabu-Shabu fondue.
• If you want to start your après ski back in town, you can still keep your experience sky high. The lovely Rooftop Bar Du Soleil d’Or looks over the rooftops of Megeve’s historic core.

Cosy bars, relaxed drinks, and intimate conversations, this is what Megeve is all about:

• Sink into the rustic décor of The Lodge Bar. This log cabin-style bar will whisk you away to new places with fur blankets, thoughtful cocktails and live folk bands.
• For a local feeling, hang out at Bar Tabac St Paul. Their sun-drenched terrace and great wine list make them a Megeve favourite.
•   Bored of vin chaud? The beautiful Bar of Le M de Megève invites you to try their signature hot cocktails. They also have a fantastic wine list and a genepi tasting menu.

You’ll get a unique après ski experience in Megeve thanks to its strong jazz culture and fabulous live music venues:

•   Curl up by the fireplace in Club de Jazz Les Cinq Rues while you listen to top international musicians.
•   With a sister bar in St Tropez, Le Café is a flawless spot for an afternoon tipple. As dusk falls, the live musicians come out to play classic French music.
•   Le Piaf is a Parisian-style piano bar with genius cocktails and rustic-chic décor.

If you can’t get enough of Megeve’s nightlife scene, you’ll find a few places to continue the party:

•   Cocoon Club is popular for its old-school glamour and late-night parties, dragging out to 5 am on the weekends.
•   Rendez-vous is a flashy spot with good DJs and a big cocktail menu.
•   Palo Alto is split across two levels. Start your night in the relaxed piano bar. Or end it upstairs with an eclectic range of international DJs.

Megeve is a dreamy place to ski. Rolling tree-lined runs and outstanding Mont Blanc views may make this the most picturesque skiing in France. Part of the Évasion Mont Blanc ski area, you’ll have access to 445km of pristine piste. Advanced skiers can be understimulated in Megeve. But they’ll be too distracted by the scenery to notice. This is a resort made for relaxing, with long cruisy runs and wide gentle slopes.

The ski area

The Evasion Mont Blanc area is made up of Megeve, Combloux, La Giettaz, Saint Gervais, Saint Nicolas de Véroce and Les Contamines. You’ll have access to 445km of varied piste and pretty resort towns. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also invest in the Mont Blanc Pass. This will give you access to 720km of piste and the wider areas of Chamonix, Les Contamines and Courmayeur. Within the smaller Megeve area, there are three main sectors:

•   Mont d’Arbois is the largest area, with lots of tree skiing for bad weather days. From here you can reach Mont Joly, the highest point in Megeve and home to the steepest slopes.
•   Rochebrune is the most accessible area, with gondolas leaving from both ends of town. This is the prettiest area. Its North facing slopes often have the best snow in the resort.
•   The majority of the piste in Le Jaillet is blue and red, making it a great choice for mixed abilities. There’s also fantastic off-piste around this area.

Boarders

This is a great area for newer boarders and intermediates. Beginners’ areas with wide flat pistes make this a relaxed resort for learning to turn. Intermediates will have a fantastic time carving through the pretty tree-lined runs.

Advanced boarders may need to seek out thrills in the backcountry. You’ll find great powder in the Mont Joux area and some more challenging terrain around Rochebrune.

If you want to show off your skills, there are three different terrain parks across Megeve. The 165-square-metre airbag at Rochebrune is a great opportunity to ease into freestyle or try out something new.

Beginners

Megeve is a top resort to learn in. New skiers can choose from a wide range of great ski schools. Kids will love the playful facilities. There’s a huge choice of nursery slopes for all ages with wide and flat pistes away from the hustle and bustle.

Once you’ve mastered those turns, you’ll find plenty of gentle terrain to ease you into the main rush. The short green below the Chamois bubble is a great starting point while the drag through the trees at Le Jaillet helps you to avoid the chair lifts until you’re feeling confident. The highlight of your week will be the long green run winding through Mont D’Arbois. Once you’ve cracked this, you’ll be ready for Megeve’s easy blues.

Our recommended ski schools:

•   Evolution 2 have snowsports instructions for a variety of levels, but they also host lots of other mountain activities, including paragliding and dog sledding.
•   ESF Megeve offers group and private lessons for all ages and also teaches Nordic skiing and biathlon.
•   BASS are an established chain across France and teaches private and group lessons for a variety of skills. This is a great option if you’re looking to make the transition to off-piste.

Intermediates

If you’ve got a couple of weeks of experience behind you, you’ll have no problem progressing in Megeve. Thanks to long and easy blues, this resort is the ultimate confidence booster. Find your snow feet again with the blues at Le Tour. When you’re ready to build on your skills, the technical blues in Rochebrune will help you step up your game.

After a few days in Megeve, you’ll be more than ready to get on the reds. Wide and cruisy options will make the transition seamless. If you’re looking for something wide and smooth, try La Petite Fontaine to get you in the zone. The reds around Mont Joux offer stunning scenery and more of a challenge. For the more confident intermediate, Megeve is the ideal resort to try your first black. By French standards, most people consider the black here easy. Advanced

While Megeve doesn’t offer the same difficult challenges as nearby resorts like Chamonix, there are a few challenges here to keep you on your toes. The Princesse run is a local favourite. For a black, it’s not very steep but it’s a lot of fun to race down it.

Tick one off the bucket list with the famous women’s downhill course at Cote 2000. The biggest on-piste challenge in Megeve is the Emilie Allais. The stamina-wearing 3km battle includes moguls, an 812 verticle drop, and a narrow tree section.

If you’re ready to progress to backcountry, ease into it on the slopes under the Christomet chair. With fewer powder hounds here, you’ll find it easier to reach fresh, untracked routes. The Magic Garden at Cote 2000 has some glorious off-piste options. La Giettaz has some fun routes through the trees but you’ll find the steepest entertainment around Mont Joy and Mont Joux. If you’re looking to get more out of your Megeve experience, consider booking a heli-skiing day. You can reach untouched mountain peaks in just 15 minutes.

Although Megeve is a lower resort you’ll find great snow throughout the season. Its green pasture lands need very little snow cover to be skiable and if all else fails, the snow-making machines are excellent. Slopes in the treeline offer plenty of shelter from the elements on bad weather days.
